Seppe Verheyen

Seppe completed his Bachelor's and Master's degree in Chemistry at the University of Antwerp, after an internship in the group of Prof. Dr. Pedro Alexandrino Fernandes and Prof. Dr. Maria João Ramos (University of Porto), having conducted his Master's thesis with Prof. Dr. Remco W. A. Havenith (University of Groningen) on Valence Bond theory. He joined ALGC as a PhD student in November 2025 with an FWO fellowship for Strategic Basic Research, in a double doctorate with the University of Groningen, under supervision of Prof. Dr. Frank De Proft, Prof. Dr. Remco W. A. Havenith, and Prof. Dr. Pieter Billen. His research aims to improve the circularity of thermoset polyurethanes by unraveling their depolymerization reactivity. A bottom-up approach of molecular dynamics and subsequent QM/MM metadynamics will be used, topped off with an analysis with conceptual DFT.
